Chiropractic spinal adjustments

Hands-on adjustments to the joints of the spine, done by Dr. Hua after a short exam.

What it is

A spinal adjustment is a quick, controlled movement applied by hand to a joint in the spine. The aim is to improve how that joint moves.

Dr. Hua checks posture, range of motion, and the areas that feel tight or sore before deciding where to adjust. Some patients hear a pop, which is gas releasing from the joint. Many do not, and that is normal too.

Who it may help

  • People with low back or mid-back stiffness
  • People with neck stiffness from desk work or driving
  • People who have tension headaches that start in the neck

Every patient is different. Dr. Hua will tell you after the exam whether this is a good fit for you.

What a session is like

You stay dressed. Wear something you can move in.

You lie face down or on your side on a padded table. Dr. Hua explains each adjustment before he does it, and you can ask him to stop at any point.

The adjustment itself takes a few minutes. A full visit, including the check-in and any added therapy, is usually 20 to 30 minutes.

Questions patients ask

Does a spinal adjustment hurt?
Most patients feel pressure, not pain. Some feel mild soreness for a day afterward, similar to after exercise. Tell Dr. Hua if anything feels wrong during the visit.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on what brought you in and how you respond. Dr. Hua will tell you what he suggests after the first visit, and you decide from there.
Is chiropractic care covered by insurance?
Many Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO plans include chiropractic visits, and Medicare covers some chiropractic adjustments. Coverage varies by plan; call us to verify your benefits.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to see a chiropractor at our clinic. Some insurance plans have their own rules, so we can check that when you call.
